The D2R Foundation announced today that they have started a strategic cooperation with European professional youth sailing team, Velapassion to support its athletes for the foreseeable future.
The Foundation, which aims to empower youth athletes by giving them the tools and access to services and support they need to achieve their goals, launched last month, and the signing of such a partnership is not unexpected given the high-profile athletes already on its roster.
The Foundation said earlier:
“Velapassion is a well-establish professional sailing team, with a group of very talent young athletes. Not only are we looking forward to supporting these athletes across their individual campaigns where possible, but helping Velapassion as a team, towards future growth and security”.
Velapassion is the brainchild of a number of Dutch based sailing families, and has quickly grown over several years into a well-known corporate-sponsored sailing team. Having worked with a number of its sailors before, Chris Russell, Founder of the D2R Foundation, was a leading choice to join the team in a strategic and coaching role.
“I’m very much looking forward to working with this group of sailors again”, Chris said, prior to their first coaching event in Medemblik, Holland this weekend. “I know at a strategic level there is lots to be done, and I’m keen to work with existing trainer Marc de Haas in helping these athletes towards their goals and progress”.
Jan Couvert, founder of Velapassion said: We are very pleased with the cooperation with the DR2 foundation, mainly the knowledge of laser sailing of Marc the Haas as well as of Chris Russell. With this cooperation we have made one step forward to the internationalisation of the team and safeguarding the continuity.
With this cooperation we also give also sponsors the additional exposure where they are asking for.
The D2R Foundation and Velapassion begin their partnership effective immediately.
